GOD'S PROMISE FOR YOU.

Posted by: Pastor J Jacobs on Tue, Dec 27, 2016

Wherever in the New Testament we read about the rewards and blessings for God’s people in the heavenly realms we read about the crowns they will be given to wear – variously called a crown of righteousness, a crown of life or, as in Peter’s first letter, a crown of glory. ‘When the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away’ (1 Peter 5:4).

The only crown King Jesus ever wore on Earth was the crown of thorns that was rammed down on his head by Roman soldiers. Pilate accorded Him the honour of describing Him as the King of the Jews, but if He were to have His full title it would be High King of Heaven as Jesus was called in an 8th century hymn (Be Thou My Vision).

And it is the High King of Heaven who, one day, will pour out His blessings on the saints who have trod the path of faithfulness on Earth, in their service of the King of Heaven. Whether it’s a crown of righteousness, a crown of life or a crown of glory – what an incredible joy and privilege it will be to receive your crown one day from King Jesus!

In the final verse of what is, arguably, Charles Wesley’s greatest hymn, And Can It Be? he sees the believer standing there in the eternity of Heaven before the throne of God. He is rejoicing in the fact that Jesus is everything to him, and there, in the most amazing awards ceremony there will ever be, he claims his crown, not on the strength of anything he is, but solely on the merit of who Jesus is:

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th’eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach th’eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

One day, all of those who truly know and love the Lord Jesus, and who have walked faithfully with Him along the road of life, will be present to claim their crown, through Christ, their own!

As we come towards the end of Ellel 365, we can see what an amazing prospect lies before us as believers, saints of God. Let’s keep on running the race of life, till Jesus calls us home – and then we can look forward to a celebration in Heaven unlike anything there has ever been seen on Earth! See you there!

Summary:

God has prepared a Crown of Life for the saints of God to wear in Heaven. At least six books in the New Testament talk about this as one of the rewards for God’s people, who have been faithful in their walk with Jesus until the time when He calls them home. It’s only because of His righteousness that we can enter into the presence of God’s glory, and claim for ourselves the Crown that He’s prepared for those who are faithful to Him.
